CA2 - Model documentation, Analysis and Reporting

This practical exam aims to ensure that you understand how to model data, document the work which also includes maintaining an audit trail, analyse the methods used and results generated, and communicate these along with your conclusions to an actuarial audience. You will need a working knowledge of spreadsheets and word.

The Format of CA2

This practical exam is comprised of two days.
The first day is to help you revise for the exam on the second day.
While registration before the exam date you will receive the pre-course assignment under your IAI member login which is to be completed and provided to IAI.
You are also suggested to go through the sample projects provided there.

The First Day

The purpose of the first day is to ensure that you understand the nature of the assessment and are familiar with the software provided.
You will get advice on planning and checking a model.
You will also work on good spreadsheet design and audit trails, and cover good summaries and how our marking schedule works.
You will be here given a feedback on the pre-course assignment submitted by you.

The Second Day

On the second day you work on an individually assessed assignment.
You will be asked to build a model with an audit trail, plus a summary outlining: description, approach, results and conclusions.
This will not be presented to an audience.
The relevant core reading will be available as soft copy on your computers.
You will get refreshment breaks and a compulsory lunch break (30 minutes).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • How to apply for CA2 examination?
  • CA2 examination is conducted twice a year and the registrations for each batch opens shortly after the results of the earlier diet are declared. Registrations for CA2 are online.

  • The batch is divided into two parts - Fresher & Retaker wherein the examination date is same.
  • Freshers are required to take the two-day residential course and Retakers have to take the exam directly on the second day.

  • What is the eligibility for applying CA2?
  • You need to clear all CT series examinations in order to register for the Fresher batch.
    You should not have attempted CA2 in both of the last two diets to register for the Retaker batch.

  • Will there be any Sample papers available?
  • Yes, you will be provided with sample projects while you register.

  • Which MS office version is used?
  • MS office 2007 version will be used for CA2 examinations.

  • What is the batch size?
  • Batch of maximum of 35 candidates in each batch (i.e. total 70 Candidates) selected on first-cum-first basis.

  • What is the dress code for the CA2 Exam?
  • Smart Casual Attire.
